Another Word for Nerd

About a year ago, I upgraded from my old Canon A300 to a newer Canon SD550. This was mostly to get higher resolution, and the fact that I hated the rate that the A300 chewed through AA batteries.

A couple of days ago, we went to Houston Camera Exchange, and I ended up coming home with a Canon S3 IS. I had been thinking about picking up a DSLR camera, but in the end I got a high-end point-and-shoot that has a good glass lens and nice optical zoom.

I’m really happy with it so far, and solved the “eats AA batteries” problem by buying two sets of NICd rechargeables and a charger.

I finally got some good pictures of the AT&T Central Office on Wesleyan between Richmond and Westheimer today.

One of my photos has been chosen to illustrate a question on the Yahoo! Answers front page. Neat!

After seeing this, I decided to make my own Macbook laptop sleeve instead of spending $30-50 for one.

This is really cool - simulate lomography using a shell script and ImageMagick!

After going round and round with the freight company about the delivery, a gift from a good friend arrived today, a Bowflex XTREME XTLU.

I’ve wanted one of these for quite a while, and miss being able to work out in the gym that we had in the Austin office. I’ll be putting this together this weekend in my “lab”/computer room, and will post pictures of the process.

I was informed today that some of my Stevie Ray Vaughan statue photos have been picked for inclusion in the Schmap Austin Guide. Neat!

We just got back from the Sisters of Mercy concert in Austin. I’m wiped out - it’s been a busy day. I’ll write more later, but until then, here are the pictures I took.

If I’d known photos were going to be allowed, I would have taken my 7-megapixel Canon digital camera instead of the 640×480 camera built into my phone.
