Just curious…

From CNN today:

PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) — President Bush vigorously defended U.S. interrogation practices in the war on terror Monday and lobbied against a congressional drive to outlaw torture.

“There’s an enemy that lurks and plots and plans and wants to hurt America again,” Bush said. “So you bet we will aggressively pursue them but we will do so under the law.”

“Our country is at war and our government has the obligation to protect the American people,” Bush said. “Any activity we conduct is within the law. We do not torture.”

If our government does not torture captives, why is he lobbying against an anti-torture law?

  1. He’s not lobbying against it, exactly. He’s going to use line-item veto to remove McCain’s rider because, as i understand it, he believes that we don’t use torture, and it’s not up to Congress to decide whether we torture anyway.

I know, it’s all the same thing, Bush is a fucking asshole and that’s all there is to it. In fact, “Any activity we conduct is within the law” can be read as “If we do it, it’s lawful”. Now THAT’S entertainment!
