I have reported ilo to the Better Business Bureau for making such a bad piece of electronics and then ducking out on the warranty. Get this: they actually told the BBB that they credited my account for the full purchase price, an outright lie!! They don't even have my account number and I'm sure not going to give an account number to such a shifty company. I encourage everyone with problems getting these DVD recorders to work properly or problems getting warranty service to put in a complaint to the BBB: http://www.oakland.bbb.org

I returned my Ilo DVDR05 this morning (7/24/06), receiving the refund as a store gift card and I had neither the receipt nor the box. I walked into my local WalMart store through the Automotive Dept door and the first two people I saw were the Store Manager and the Store Assistant Manager talking to each other. I explained to the Manager that the DVDR wouldn't recognize any DVDs (ones I burned nor any others, including unformatted) and that I had been calling the sevice center for 3 weeks, getting the message that they were no longer available. I also told him I had bought my first Ilo in Oct 2005 (it crapped out after 2 weeks), returned it around Nov 1st, and got a second one. This one was manufactured Sep 2005 so it wasn't even a year old. He replied that he wanted to "make good" and took me to the Electronics Dept Manager and told him to either find me another DVDR or give me a refund. I opted for the refund so I would have time to research my next DVDR purchase. Since they no longer had a DVDR05 in stock, it took him about a hour to find the UPC so the Return Dept could process the refund. Finally got the refund.
I had suspected the VDR05 was a CyberHome, since both had the buttons and connectors in the same location. Then I read that the Feds, State (Calif), and Local (Fremont, CA) authorities confiscated 20,000 CyberHome DVDRs that were using unlicensed technology belonging to Philips Electronics. Since CyberHome and the Ilo Service Center are both in Fremont CA, I suspect (but don't know) that may be why we no longer see the DVDR05 in the WalMart stores. I also found out that the service center for the DVDR04 doesn't do repair work on the DVDR05. I'm glad I was able to get rid of my DVDR05 without it costing me more.

Not happy with what i've been reading. Thought everyone would like to know that the service center # is no longer working. Can't even call the company with problems. Someone told me to update firmware. Downloaded info and machine won't read the CD that the info is on. Now really don't know what to do.

Bought one, only after a month it made bad recordings, then next thing you know, It will not recognize dvds at all, no regular ones, dvd-r dvd rw any.. Plays music cds on the tv.
put disk in, spin read, spin read, spin read......"bad disk" or "no disk"
Couldn't return it...no box, lost reciept,...
Since it plays the music cds, it prob isn't a laser alignment issue. Being adverturous I opened it up and been unable to figure whats wrong. Since some people have no complaints then ILO has bad qaulity control with high failure rate. Some times cheap is too cheap..

I agree that this recorder is a cheap piece of crap. I received it as a Christmas gift used it maybe 3 or 4 times and it won't work now. I can't watch or record on it. Since it was a gift I can't furnish the receipt and they want $89.95 to fix it. They must think I'm stupid because it wasn't much more to buy it when new. It still has a sticker on the bottom that says it was manufactured in Sept. of 2005. They should be able to honor the warranty because it wasn't even manufactured a year ago.

Ilo is indeed junk. Squeezed a year out of mine. Main problems were failure to recognize discs actually made on the recorder. The AV connections crapped out after 6 months and I used coaxial cable to facilitaite recording. Six months later, the DVD player would not play anything. It quickly collapsed in every area. The old adage of getting what you pay for proved to be true.

I just purchased an Ilo DVDr05. I found some big pros and some big cons to say the least.

Con: I have a satelite. When connecting to the tuner, the quality is a little LESS than what the satelite tuner displayed on my television.

I made coasters out of 3 Memorex 8x DVD+Rs. I could format on them, record but during finalization it would say "error, disk not readable".

PRO: I have TONS of DVD-Rs because that's what my computer uses. I wanted to see what would happen if I placed one inside the ILO recorder. It formated AND recorded AND finalized with NO PROBLEM! I'm using CHEAP GQ DVD-R. According to DVD Decrypter, they're Sony Brand.

So, I'm satisfied! I wanted something to record my tv shows in a format that I could distrubute to my friends and connect to my digital video camera (which also worked). I'm happy.
