This is the best response to nutcases on the subway that I’ve ever seen.

Police State: NYC 2004

Here’s even more details on the police roundup of innocent people at the 2004 RNC, this time from Emmanuel Goldstein of 2600 and WBAI.

I made this nifty list (PDF) of my SRV music collection as of Saturday.

Well, i’ve got a ways to go still, but one unfortunate side effect is that I’m COLD ALL THE TIME. I normally keep the house between 68 and 70 degrees F, but right now its 70F in the computer room and I’m FREEZING. Yay metabolism!

In Memoriam.

Today I visited the Stevie Ray Vaughan memorial statue at Auditorium Shores here in Austin, left a guitar pick, and took a lot of pictures.

Police state, here we come.

Its really great seeing people exercising their rights to stage a peaceful protest and then get treated like cattle and criminals.
FOUR MORE YEARS of this, eh?

A Comparison

In America: Flash a breast at halftime, get a $500K fine from the FCC.
In Australia: Accidentally lose a skirt during a fashion show, just laugh it off and run backstage.

I think this country definitely needs to loosen up a bit. Said Miss Universe, “It was just a pity I wasn’t wearing better panties.”

“SRV” Box Set (3 CDs)

and the following DVDs:
“SRV” Box Set DVD (Austin City Limits unreleased footage)

Just a few more and I’ll have everything that was officially released, and I have a bunch of unreleased stuff (music and video) on the way.

My favorite OS X apps

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

Everyone’s doing it, so I’ll list my favorite OS X apps as well, the stuff I consider “essential”:

  • Desktop Manager, for multiple “virtual workspaces”
  • MenuMeters, for CPU load graphs and memory use status on the menubar
  • WeatherPop Advance, for menubar weather status
  • Temperature Monitor, to keep an eye on the guts of my MDD “Wind Tunnel” dual G4
  • NetNewsWire, my preferred RSS/RDF/Atom reader
  • FFView, the closest Mac equivalent to CDisplay for Windows that I’ve seen, for reading comic book archives
  • MissingMediaBurner, for when I need to burn some oddball CD format or make CDs/VCDs
  • SuperCal to keep my monitor nice and calibrated and sharp
  • VueScan for my flatbed scanners
  • ffmpegX for video conversion

For the iBook, I also use

September 19th: I realized I forgot to list a *lot* of things.
