  1. shit…hit enter…

or peaceful like beating a cop unconscious? I’m sorry. I don’t understand. This is supposed to make an undecided person say, “Hey! Yeah! They’re right! I understand their point.”

I don’t support either side but from what I’ve seen the left sure aren’t helping their side doing that kind of stuf…

  2. I never said that NYC may not have gone a bit far but from what I’ve read things were a lot more out of control than what you saw on the news. This is why I don’t lean Democratic or Republican. They both see everything in black-and-white…Bush is evil! Bush is God! Whatever, he’s been good and bad. In my opinion, more good than bad. I didn’t vote for him and sure as hell don’t plan on voting for Kerry. his whole platform has been “Hey, I fought a whole 4 months in Vietnam.” Shit, if a Purple Heart or two is all it tkaes to make you a good Prez, my father is 8X the man he is. 2 Tours and when he didn’t go home at the first chance he could. I have yet to hear exactly what it is about Kerry that’s so much better than Bush other than, ‘he’s not Bush’.

  3. The only real reason I’m rooting for Kerry is, “he’s not Bush”, and I think he could actually do a decent job. I can’t think of any past president who did a “good” job – there’s only so much you can do in four or eight years.

I’m not a fan of politics, and I’d never even registered to vote before this year. I just think it’s time for a change at the top.

(also: I hate discussing/arguing politics with friends..)

  4. I hate discussing it with friends too…ask my wife. When I have friends over there are only two topics which are never to be discussed: politics and religion. Everything else is fair game. Sports, movies, sex lives, anything but those. And I believe it’s a good way to live.

  5. That’s my story of being arrested. Interesting that what little filters out into the mainstream media is the one undercover cop who plowed into a crowd of people that got beat up and the idiot who decided to set a dragon float on fire. The people who did those things should be punished accordingly. Of course. The HUNDREDS of us who were simply on the sidewalk WATCHING peaceful protests should not have been rounded up and held for 40+ hours for simple violations that would otherwise warrant only an on-the-spot ticket. These are political police state tactics, by simple definition. That’s the point, there was no effort to determine who was involved in an action and who was a bystander. Plenty of tourists and even a few Republicans were swept up. The next time it could be you.

Doubtful. I’m agoraphobic and wouldn’t be caught dead anywhere near such a demonstration.

I’m sorry that you went through that and it sucks but I avoid those kinds of things by staying the hell away. I think you can do more politically by getting to know your representatives and voicing your concerns than running around in the streets and disrupting others lives. Making other people’s lives difficult doesn’t really persuade them to see your point of view.

As for ‘police state’ tactics. Yeah, NYC is such a Republican stronghold. I’m sure it was all politically motivated.

Didn’t know you had a politics discussion blog did ya, Bill? 🙂

  7. “I think you can do more politically by getting to know your representatives and voicing your concerns than running around in the streets and disrupting others lives.”

You sure make a lot of assumptions, don’t you? You have no idea what I do or how I may “voice my concern” to my representatives. Once again, you completely MISSED the point. There were PLENTY of people, myself included, who were NOT “running around the streets disupting others”, we were simply WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK when the cops decided to pen in the whole block. The last time I checked, the First Amendment allowed this. It’s one thing to arrest people who were actually DISRUPTING, it’s another thing entirely to sweep up everyone who happens to be near by.
