what if…

Sunday, April 11th, 2004

What if the 2004 presidential election is called off or “postponed” due to a well-timed terrorist attack? I’m starting to like our current president less and less.

In other news, 667 US troops have been killed in Iraq since March 2003. See a photo mosaic here.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-war, I’m just anti-war when there wasn’t a real reason to go to war other than “Saddam beat my daddy, but he won’t beat me!”.

Ole’ Mole!

Sunday, April 11th, 2004

I’ve lived in Texas for almost eight years now, and I’ve never had a tex-mex dish that had mole sauce in it. Mostly, this was due to the description (”eww, chocolate and peppers? that sounds disgusting!”) and Amy’s description of what was, apparently, a VERY badly done mole dish she had in the northeast a few years ago.

We went to El Mercado on Burnet (she was craving Tex-Mex). I felt adventurous, so I ordered the mole enchiladas (shredded chicken, with mole sauce and white cheese on top). They were AMAZING - since its not a milk chocolate, or a sweet chocolate, its an interesting taste. Almost like a sweet “red bean” sauce/paste from asian cooking. I really liked it, and will probably order the normal mole plate the next time we go back.

ow, my back.

Along with a coworker, today we hauled 56 (yes, fifty-six) 19″ and 21″ monitors, three or four at a time, from the third floor of our building down to the parking lot, where a recycling company palletized them and hauled them away. Also discarded were about fifteen old/broken/obsolete PCs. I scrounged all the CPUs, memory, hard drives, and cards before we tossed the boxes (basically carcasses after we got through with them), and have quite a nice pile of Slot-1 CPUs, PC100 RAM, 3Com 10/100 network cards, and Adaptec 2940 SCSI cards now.
