the decline of western civilization

Instead of making everyone technologically literate, the widespread use of computers in the past ten years has, in my opinion, resulted in the decline of the average teenager’s reading comprehension level and writing ability.

example: any random LiveJournal.

“hay guys wutz up n’much how r u? i just got bak from going out 2 sk8, it wuz rad LOL!!!” etc.

I’m afraid for the future. I’ve seen it, and it can’t spell.

  1. Could anyone spell prior to the “Internet revolution”? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I cannot believe that grown adults cannot distinguish between “your” and “you’re” or “capitol” and “capital”. I frequently come across ISO-9001 documentation at my company that looks almost as bad as the example you give above. The push-back I get from people is, “Well, you knew what I meant.” Well, sometimes I don’t know what you meant and besides, you’re only making yourself look like a complete moron with your spelling and gramatical errors. I see this problem with everyone from the nosebleed sections of management to lowly techs.

Sorry, this is one my pet peeves: poor grammar. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. In my brief stint as a pseudo-manager of a tech support department I got to see a lot of this kind of stuff. If you can’t even learn to use a spell checker on your resume your app was immediately circular filed. Things have gotten worse it seems in the past 5 years. Boy, am I glad I homeschool my kid.
