went to the gym with Amy for the first time yesterday (to actually work out). Did ten minutes on the treadmill and about a half hour of lifting various weights. I’m definitely feeling it in my shoulders and arms today, but my legs are fine.

I may get a monthly membership and start going 3-4 times a week. I like it better than working out in the gym at the office on my lunch hour, because at work I have to worry about getting sweaty and nasty. At the gym closer to home, I can get as nasty as I want and get a proper workout.

Yay! This site is the first result if you search for “freezer tetris” using Google. I had to play again this morning (new bag of ice) and completed two levels!

Mac OS X 10.3 “Panther” was released tonight.

I’ve been running Beta 7B85 of Panther (the version that became “gold master” and the retail release) for about a week and a half now. I’m very impressed – its very fast, overall. I’d say about 30-50% faster for some operations than 10.2 “Jaguar”. Machine here at home is a dual-867 G4 “Mirrored Drive Door” tower with GeForce 4MX video and 2G of RAM.

Gotta wait till next week (payday) to fork out the $129 for my official retail-release copy, though.

Managed to change the strings on my guitar tonight without breaking one; a minor miracle when you consider I haven’t done this in about five years.

Freezer Tetris

Saturday, October 18th, 2003

Freezer Tetris is the art of realizing that you bought too many frozen foods, and subsequently rearranging the contents of the freezer multiple times in an effort to make everything fit so that the door closes.

Shaved off my goatee tonight, but kept the mustache. I’m going to let it grow back; it was just looking very scraggly and was growing unevenly.

My boss at work approved the purchase of a new monitor for my desk, so I got a Dell E171FPb, their low-end 17″ LCD flat panel, for $377.

It arrived today, and I quickly replaced the old Sun/Sony Trinitron CRT (which was HUGE) with the flat panel. Even though it has only a singl e analog (SVGA) input, the picture is wonderful, contrast and brightness are good, and my eyes are happy.

This has a better picture than a Sun/Samsung 18.1″ LCD I’ve used before, or the 1440×1050 14″ LCD in my Thinkpad A20 laptop. I might end up getting one of these for a Christmas present if Dell drops the prices for the holiday season.

Comment Spam

Tuesday, October 14th, 2003

I’m seeing a lot of “comment spam” on this weblog as well as the SunHELP and MacHELP sites I run (which use MT as a backend), so I’ve installed the MT-Blacklist plugin to help cut down on that activity as well as some behind-the-scenes changes.
